Beyond Winning
Sports is inherently a competitive endeavor. There are records kept of wins and losses. It can be so much more. External competition is against an opponent. That is called winning. We also have an internal competition. We strive to be better than we were. That is called growing. By definition a game has exactly one winner and one loser. However, everyone can grow from every practice and game. We all compete to be a better version of ourselves as a player and a person.
We hope that you will learn to love the great game of lacrosse. If this happens, we have succeeded. Native Americans played lacrosse for more than themselves. Lacrosse was used to:
- Train young warriors
- Settle disputes
- Be medicine for healing
- Honor ancestors
- Honor the game
- Honor opponents
- Honor the Creator
Lacrosse programs may take different forms with different objectives, but lacrosse is lacrosse. It is a continuum that begins by picking up a stick for the first time and can extend a lifetime. As you develop as a player, you may choose to play lacrosse at more competitive levels. We will help you start and grow in this journey.
Every player is unique. They are special. They can contribute to other people's experience of lacrosse and life. We hope to build a culture that accepts our differences. We all come here with a different set of experiences and expectations. If we choose to affirm each other, this shared experience can uplift us all.
